Transparency in Coverage: Machine Readable Files

The Transparency in Coverage Rule requires health insurers and group health plans to make Machine Readable Files (MRFs) publicly accessible beginning on July 1, 2022.

To meet this requirement, for our UnitedHealthcare plans, MRFs will be posted monthly on transparency-in-coverage.uhc.com. This location is publicly available and accessible to all, and no authentication is required. To link to the Machine-Readable Files, please click on the URL above. Beginning July 1, 2022, and monthly thereafter, the MRFs will appear on this site. While these files are accessible to all, the file itself is large, written in JSON, which is a machine-readable language, and not easily interpreted or searchable.

Change Healthcare HIPAA Substitute Notice

As you are likely aware, Change Healthcare was the victim of a ransomware attack that occurred between February 17, 2024 and February 20, 2024, which resulted in a cybercriminal gaining access to personal health and financial information belonging to nearly 190 million individuals.  In connection with the data breach, Change Healthcare recently notified Ventra Health that some of its clients’ patients were impacted, and it would be notifying those patients directly.

As a courtesy to our clients and their patients, attached below is a link to the HIPAA Substitute Notice (“Substitute Notice”) provided by Change Healthcare regarding the data breach:  https://www.changehealthcare.com/hipaa-substitute-notice.html

If you suspect that you might have had information compromised, we recommend that you review the Substitute Notice for more information on steps that you can take to protect yourself.  Additionally, please be on the look out for any correspondence from Change Healthcare which otherwise confirms that your information was impacted by the data breach.

If you have any additional questions or concerns regarding the data breach, including without limitation whether or not you were impacted, we encourage you to contact Change Healthcare directly.  Change Healthcare has established a dedicated service team to address individuals’ questions and concerns regarding the data breach, who can be reached toll-free at 1-866-262-5342, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. CT, or online at www.changecybersupport.com.
